Making Half Square Triangle Units

Cutting Half Square TrianglesTo make half square triangles, you must first determine the size of your finished block and add 7/8" to this number.
(For example, if your finished block is 4", then you would need a square of fabric 4 7/8")

Cut your two fabrics in the size of the finished block + 7/8". Place them right side together.

1.With a pencil or chalk, draw a line from A to B on the wrong side of the fabric.

2. With your 1/4" presser foot aligned on line A-B, sew from C to D. Turn your square and with your 1/4" presser foot aligned on A-B, sew from E to F.

3. With your ruler and rotary cutter, cut line A-B.

You will now have 2 half square units which will measure the desired size of your square + 1/2" seam allowance.
