Autumn Paths

9 1/2" (unfinished) 9" (finished)

Autumn is here! Leaves are falling! Rake them up into piles so you can see your paths.

This month we offer an easy block for our Block of the Month, one that you can whip up very quickly so that you have some blocks to enter in the BOM lottery, and still have time left over to whip up a quick table runner for your Thanksgiving decor!

You may even be able to use some of your fabrics from past strip swaps, FQ swaps, and the center could even be cut from a nickel square!

For each block you will need a dark brown TOT, a light tan, and an autumn leaf print that can be a TOT or leaf print with little or no background showing. Look at the quilts below for some ideas about fabrics.

You may make up to 3 blocks of each group of fabrics for this swap.

Cut for each block:

DARK BROWN TOT:

(1) 2" strip by about 18"

TAN TOT:

(1) 2" strip by about 18"
(4) 3 1/2" squares

LEAF Print:

(1) 3 1/2" square

To Assemble Block:

Place the two 2" strips RST and stitch along the 18" length. Press to the dark fabric. Slice this strip set into (8) 2" pieces. Sew these pieces into (4) 4-patches. Press these seams to one side. Your 4-patches should measure 3 1/2" square at this point.

Lay out your 4 patches with the other squares, aligning them as in the block picture above. Take care that your dark 'paths' all point to the outer corners of the block. Sew the pieces together in strips of 3, pressing the seams on each row to the background squares. Then sew the 3 strips together as in the picture. Press, and you are done!!!

Square up your block to make sure it measures 9 1/2" for this swap. Enter lots, and you might just be a lucky winner!

Here are a couple of setting ideas for quilts, a table runner, and a bonus for fun, a non-scrappy quilt for those who might also wish to make their own quilt.
