8 1/2" unfinished size (8" finished size)

Spring flowers are front and center on this month's happy little block. It's really just a 9-patch block skinnied down in the middle, easy to cut and sew. If you swapped for floral strips, you will be able to use them for this block. You will need one floral fabric and one green solid or TOT (tone on tone) that looks nice with the floral and one little piece of yellow fabric for each block. Use a medium or small floral (not calico) so that the flowers will show in the 4 corners of the block. The winner of this BOM will have a veritable flower garden, in wild bloom for their quilt. Bloom on!
For each block: Cut (4) 4" squares of one floral fabric
Cut (4) 1 1/2" x 4" rectangles of a green solid or TOT
Cut (1) 1 1/2" square of yellow
To Assemble Block: Sew with 1/4" seams.Sew one green strip to one floral square. Press to the green. Repeat. Sew remaining floral squares to the other side of the green strips and press to the green.
Sew the yellow square to one green strip, press to the green. Sew remaining green strip to the other side of the yellow square and press to green.
Place this strip between the wider sewn strips (as in the picture), nestling the seams for nice neat intersections. Press these seams to the center.
Please be sure to check your measurements/seam allowances. The block needs to measure 8 1/2" before you enter it in the drawing.
Can you almost smell the flowers? Happy Spring!
Here are a couple of settings I did to make you think of flower gardens and to suggest ways to use your blocks. The first one does not have sashing, uses a 1 1/2" (finished) inner border and a 5" outer border, to finish at 53 inches square.
The second one finishes at 50" square, using 1" (finished) sashing with cornerstones, a 1" inner border and a 5" outer border.
