Super Simple Heart
6 1/2" unfinished size (6" finished size)
Each block should be made from one red fabric and one white, white on white or cream fabric. This super simple heart is made of only 3 pieces of fabric.
For each block:
RED: Cut 1 rectangle 2 1/2" x 4 1/2" and 1 rectangle 4 1/2" x 6 1/2"
WHITE or CREAM: Cut 1 square 2 1/2"
To Assemble Block: Sew with 1/4" seams. Sew the smaller red rectangle to the light square and press to the dark fabric. This piece should measure 2 1/2" x 6 1/2". Lay out above the larger rectangle with the white square to the upper right, per the picture. Sew seam, press to the larger rectangle. Measure your block(s), they should measure 6 1/2" square before mailing in a swap.
Make lots! You just might be the lucky winner!!
Here are a few setting ideas for you. The first one is sashed with sashing cut to 1 1/2" with cornerstones in a straight set, but turning the blocks to create an interesting secondary pattern. The inner border is 1" finished (cut at 1 1/2") and the outer border is 4", (cut at 4 1/2") making the size of this 36-block lap quilt finish at 51" square.
The second one is the same set but showing how it looks with a light sashing and dark red border.

The third contains 25 blocks set on point with 1 1/2" sashing and cornerstones (cut at 2"), inner border of 1" (cut at 1 1/2") and outer border of 6" (cut at 6 1/2"). The setting triangles for the sides and bottom are cut from (3) 7 3/4" squares cut twice on the diagonal. The setting triangles for the 4 corners are cut from (2) 7" squares cut once on the diagonal. This quilt finishes at about 56 1/2" square.
