QAF Block of the Month
October 2003
30's Bordered 4 Patch
6 1/2" unfinished (6" finished)

Here's one for all
you 30's fans! This block is a repeat from April, only this time it is to
be made of 30's repro fabrics. Choose 2 different 30's fabrics for each block
plus one white fabric. The white can be a BLEACHED muslin, or a Kona white
or snow, or even a WOW. And if you swapped 30's strips, here is a good place
to use them. Slice the 4" strips into 2" strips! Mix and match -
easy as pie!
For each block:
Cut: (2) white squares, 2" x 2" and (2) of one of your 30's fabrics, 2" x 2".
Cut: (2) 3 1/2" x 2" rectangles and (2) 6 1/2" x 2" rectangles from your other 30's fabric.
To Assemble Block: Sew with 1/4" seams. Sew each white square to a 30's square. Press to the 30's square. Sew the two pieces into a 4-patch block, following the picture. Press the seam to one side. This piece should, at this point, measure 3 1/2" x 3 1/2. Be sure to measure before you apply the rectangles. Sew one 3 1/2" x 2" rectangle to either side of the 4-patch. Press to the rectangles. Sew the two remaining rectangles to the other sides to finish your block. Measure your block(s), they should measure 6 1/2" square before mailing in a swap.
You may make up to 3 alike for this month's lottery.
Make lots! This is a fun and easy block, and you might just be a winner!

Here are some suggested settings, in most of them I have used alternate squares of 30's solids.
