Split Nine Patch

12" finished size (12 1/2" unfinished)

Naturally – Red and White for February.  Find a nice red print and a white on white for this one.

Cutting:

Red:
3 squares, 4 1/2"
2 squares, 4 7/8"

White on White
3 squares 4 1/2"
2 squares, 4 7/8"

On the back of the 4 7/8" white on white squares, draw a diagonal line from coner to corner.  On each side of that line, 1/4" away, draw another line.  Layer a red 4 7/8" square and a white 4 7/8" square, right sides together.  Sew the squares together on the outside lines, cut apart on the center line (We've done this before – quick half square triangles)

Press out the half square triangle blocks and assemble the block as a nine-patch.  You'll have an extra half-square triangle block left over.
