Red, white and blue for the flag.  If you can find blue fabric with little white stars, use that.  Otherwise, just American Flag blue solid is fine.

 

Cutting Directions

Blue:        Cut one square, 4 1/2"

Red         Cut 2 strips 8 1/2"x 1 1/2" and 2 strips 12 1/2" x 1 1/2".

White:      Cut 2 strips 8 1/2"x 1 1/2" and 1 strip 12 1/2" x 1 1/2".

 

Sewing Directions

 

Sew the two shorter red and white strips together, long sides together, alternating red and white.  Sew the blue square to one end of this unit.

 

Sew a longer red strip to the bottom of this, then a white strip and finish with a red strip.

 

If you're making a sampler quilt of all the BOM's, you can turn this into a 12" (finished size) by adding a 12 1/2" x 3" strip of a background fabric at the top and bottom of the flag.
