QAF Block of the Month

Hearts

6 1/2" (unfinished), 6" (finished)

It's almost Valentines Day, and for this year we are doing a heart again. I did several different layouts, since this one is very versatile. For the BOM we are calling for red OR pink fabrics with white.

Some of these layouts suggest flowers to me, and maybe you'd like to make yourself a colorful flower garden with this block (after you make some BOMs in red or pink, of course.)

You will need one red or pink fabric and one white fabric for each block you make to enter.

Cut for each block:

Heart fabric: (1) pc. 3 1/2" x 3 1/2" and (1) pc. 3 1/2" x 6 1/2"
White fabric: (4) pc. 1 1/2" x 1 1/2" and (1) pc. 3 1/2" x 3 1/2"

To assemble block:

Mark a diagonal line on the back of each 1 1/2" white square. Place them in the appropriate corners of the two red pieces, following the picture above, one at a time. Press them to the outside of the patch, making sure the white piece entirely covers the red corners. Trim the under pieces and then square up the two pieced patches to 3 1/2" x 6 1/2" and 3 1/2" x 3 1/2", as appropriate.

Sew the white 3 1/2" square to one side of the smaller red piece and press, then stitch the heart together as above to finish. Your block should measure 6 1/2" square.

Here are the layouts I promised:
