QAF Block of the Month

January 2010

What 9 Patch?

10 1/2" (unfinished), 10" (finished)

Here is a fun and easy Block of the Month to start the new year with. You will need one medium blue TOT withor without a small white print,, one dark blue TOT, and one white or WOW, with or without a small blue print, just as you see in the figures above.

Cut for each block:

(4) 4" medium blue squares, (1) 4" dark blue square, (4) 4" white squares

To assemble block:

Build a 9 patch as in the first picture above. Press, and make sure it measures 11" square at this point. Then, with your ruler and rotary cutter, cut exactly through the center of the block in both directions. You will now have 4 identical pieced squares that measure 5 1/2".

Now, rotate the upper left unit and the lower right unit until the little dark blue squares point to each other in the center of the block.

Sew all 4 units together and square up to 10 1/2" UNfinished size. You may make up to 6 to enter in the BOM lottery, but only repeat two of the medium blue...then use another medium blue for the next two, etc. The other fabrics may remain the same.

Someone will have a lovely scrappy quilt when all is done. Enjoy!

Here are a couple of layouts- do these look icy enough for Winter?
