QAF Block of the Month

Dots & Spots 4-Patch

8 1/2"(unfinished), 8" (finished)

We're moving into mid-Summer. It's hot! Thunder and lightening! I'm seeing spots and dots!

So, we thought we'd offer some spots and dots for our BOM this month. All you need is ONE fabric with spots or dots in any color(s) and one white or WOW fabric for up to 3 blocks. If you want to make up to 6 blocks for the BOM, you'll need at least one other dotty fabric for the 2nd 3 blocks...you can use the white for them all.

This is a really easy block, just what we know you love to do in the summer months.

Cut for each block:

Dots: (1) 4 1/2" square and (1) strip that is 2 1/2" wide by a bit more than 5" long

White or WOW: (2) 4 1/2" squares and (1) strip that is 2 1/2" wide by a bit more than 5" long

NOTE: if you are making 3 alike, you will need to triple all these quantities.

To assemble:

Stitch the dotty strip to the white strip, side by side. Press to the dots. Crosscut (2) 2 1/2" pieces from the strata for one block. Stitch the small 4 patch pieces together as above, and press the seam whichever way you like best.

Arrange your larger dotty square in a diagonal line with the small dotty squares in the 4 patch, as in the block above, and fill in the other two corners with your white squares. Stitch as usual in two rows. Press seams. Stitch rows together, aligning as picture above.

What did you think of THAT easy block?!!!?

Here are a couple of quilt layouts...enjoy!

Straight ahead - makes lovely stepping stones
